Here is a list of my 10 favorite Literary Works

01

Perfect

by: Natasha Frien

This is one of my favorite novels; I read it  in middleschool and could not put it down.

02

Their Eyes Were Watching God

by: Zora Neal Hurston

Zora Neale Hurston did such a wonderful job on this novel. I had the oppurtunity to read this Their Eyes Were Watching God in the 12th grade in my AP Lit class. However, at the time I could not appreciate the level of intellegience  Zora put nto her story. The charactrter Jainie

03

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

by: Mildred D. Taylor

This is one of the first chapter books I read as a child. This book introduced to the life of Blacks  living in the south. Also, this book exposed me to the racial injustices Blacks faced as well.

04

Jason and Kyra

by: Dana Davidson

This is a great teen novel about love. I enjoyed reading this book in middle school and it is also one of my first romance novels.

05
What Happens To A Dream Deffered( Harlem)

by: Langston Hughes

I live by this poem and apply it to a lot of things that  I do. I like to remeber it and use it as  motivation for me when I feel dsicouraged by certain tasks. Though the message of the poem isn't  to motivate, but to question and or challenge the reader. It challenges the reader  to think about what might happen  to their dream, if they did not come true. Is it their own fault, or does life not always work out how we plan?

06

The Awakening

by: Kate Chopin

I had the chance to read this novel in my AP Literature class. I love this book because it talked about womanhood and the sacrifice a woman makes when she  gets married and has kids. I admired the character, Edna, when she stated the following, "I would give up the unessential [for my children]; I would give my money, I would give my life for my children; but I wouldn't give myself." This is a great stroy of a woman's sel-f discovery (or self -actulization); Maslows hierachry of needs can be greatly applied to this text when doing  a paper analysis. Moreover, there are great elements of femisinm as  well as rebellion of the status quo in this text.

07

To Kill a Mockingbird

by: Harper Lee

08

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

by: Pearl Poet

"If fate is kind or cruel, man must still try"

This is another quote I live by; it encourgaes me to be outgoing even when something scares me. I cannot succeed in somethhing if I do no try and this quote inspires me to  beat a failure with a try.

09

Hamlet

by: William Shakespeare

"To thine ownself, be true."

I enjoyed the play Hamlet  however, this particular quote stood out to me.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

by: Maya Angelou
